Interior Painting: 6 Tips Before You Paint the Kitchen

Before you choose a paint color for the kitchen, there are a few things to consider, like your kitchen size, functionality, complementary colors, and more. This month, Painters Etcetera is providing some interior painting tips to choose the best color to go perfectly with your kitchen!

Choose Complementary Colors

First, think about your home’s overall style and aesthetic. The kitchen color should complement the existing colors and design elements in the rest of the house. For example, if you have a traditional home with lots of woodwork, earthy tones and neutral colors like white or beige are excellent options. If your home has a more modern aesthetic, a bold color like red or blue could work well!

Is there Any Natural Light?

Next, consider the amount of natural light in the kitchen. If the kitchen is well-lit, you can choose a bolder color without it feeling too overwhelming. If the kitchen is on the darker side, a lighter color will help brighten up the space. It will also make it feel airier!

How Big is Your Kitchen?

Consider the size of your kitchen. In general, lighter colors make a room feel larger, while darker colors make it feel smaller. If your kitchen is on the smaller side, choose a light color to help open up the space. If your kitchen is large, a darker color can help create a cozy, intimate atmosphere.

Functionality

Kitchens are often high-traffic areas that get dirty and greasy quickly. So it's important to choose a paint color that’s simple to clean and doesn't show stains easily. Neutral colors like white and beige are popular choices for kitchens since they’re easy to clean and don't show stains as much as darker colors would.

Complement Your Kitchen’s Features

We may have mentioned complimenting the aesthetic of your household, but it’s even more important to think about how your kitchen looks right now. Consider the colors of your cabinets, countertops, and other kitchen fixtures. The paint color should complement the colors of these items, not clash with them! For example, if your cabinets are a dark wood, a light paint color will help balance out the darkness. If your countertops are a light granite, a darker paint color will add more depth to the space.   interior painting
