Interior Painters Talk 3 Tips for Paint Finishes

When it comes to painting a room, one of the most important decisions you'll make is choosing the right paint finish. The finish of a paint can affect everything from the overall look and feel of a room to its durability and ease of cleaning. This month our interior painters at Painters Etcetera are providing some tips for choosing the right paint finish for every room in your home!

What room are you painting?

First, consider the purpose of the room. Different rooms in your home will have different needs in terms of paint finish. For example, a bedroom or living room may be more focused on aesthetics, while a kitchen or bathroom will need to be more durable and easy to clean. For high-traffic areas, such as hallways and staircases, a durable and scrubbable finish is a must. Satin or semi-gloss finishes are great options for these areas, as they can withstand frequent cleaning and resist scuffs and stains. For low-traffic areas, such as bedrooms or formal living rooms, a more decorative finish may be appropriate. Eggshell and pearl finishes have a slight sheen and can provide a subtle, elegant look. They're also more forgiving when it comes to touch-ups and minor imperfections.

What kind of atmosphere are you looking for?

If you're looking to create a specific mood or atmosphere in a room, consider using a matte finish. Matte finishes absorb light and can create a soft, warm, and inviting atmosphere. They're also good for hiding imperfections in walls and ceilings. When it comes to bathrooms and kitchens, you'll want to choose a paint finish that can withstand humidity and moisture. Semi-gloss and high-gloss finishes are great options for these rooms, as they are highly durable and easy to clean.

Other factors to consider.

Another important consideration when choosing a paint finish is color. Different finishes can affect the way a paint color looks. For example, a paint color may appear more intense and vibrant with a high-gloss finish. And it may appear more muted and subtle with a matte finish. Finally, consider the lighting in the room. If a room has a lot of natural light, a high-gloss finish may reflect too much light and make the room feel too bright. If a room has a lot of natural light, a matte finish may make the room feel too dark.   interior painters
