Is Summer the Best Time to Paint Your House?

Does your house need a paint job? Depending on the material of your siding, the quality of the paint, and environmental factors, most houses need to be painted every 5-10 years. If your house is in that interval, you’re probably researching the best exterior house painters in your area. The good news is that you’ve finished that step in the process. You’ve found Painters Etcetera! But now you have to tackle the next step: when should you paint your house?

As experienced exterior house painters, we have the answers to all your questions.

Timing Is Everything

Because the outside isn’t a controlled environment like the inside of your house is, exterior painters are at the mercy of the elements. The best time to paint a house is when the weather is dry and warm, making summer the ideal time for exterior painting. Rain and evaporating moisture can wreck a paint job that hasn’t completely dried yet. Deciding when to paint your house depends on when you have a long enough stretch of temperate weather.

Too Hot to Paint

Even here in New England, the summer months can get pretty hot. Although it's unusual for temperatures to get too hot to paint, it’s not impossible. The ideal temperatures to apply latex paint are between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. You have a little more wiggle room with oil-based paint. You can safely apply it in temperatures between 40 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. It sometimes gets hotter than that around here, but those stretches usually only last for a few days. Exterior house painting season can also easily extend into the fall as long as the weather stays dry.   exterior house painters
